a logo featuring the disability pride flag and text: This month, CRCC joins millions of others in observing Disability Pride Month 2025, and this is a time to recognize and celebrate the history and achievements of the disability community.

Disability Pride month started in July of 1990 when the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26th.

This act prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in various aspects of public life like employment, education and public spaces.

The signing of this law gives protection to individuals with disabilities and guarantees equal opportunity.

Why Celebrate Disability Pride Month 2025?

Beyond the law, this month allows people with disabilities to embrace who they are. It is about visibility and being proud of who you are, no matter what disability you may have.

For Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRCs) this is a time to recognize their work and why it matters. CRCs are trained professionals who help people with disabilities reach their goals and build confidence in their future.

CRCs are more than just counselors; they ensure that people with disabilities have the support they need throughout their journey and help them thrive. The ADA established the need for professionals like CRCs and increased their importance.

While the ADA significantly impacted how things are today, there is still more to do.

This month we come together to recognize the journey and the opportunities that exist because of this act but also recognize the importance of inclusion as practice every day.

At CRCC, we are proud to have a part in supporting growth and opportunities in the disability community now and in years to come.
