Certified Disability and Rehabilitation Associate: The New Disability and Rehabilitation Credential

Quality rehabilitation services are an essential part of quality outcomes for persons with disabilities. There is a shortage of specialists trained to work with people with disabilities. If you have the specialized education to contribute to the solution, become a Certified Disability and Rehabilitation Associate.

The Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) is announcing a new credential for people who graduate from bachelor’s level disability and rehabilitation programs.

Establishing this new credential in disability and rehabilitation brings national attention to the important preparatory work of undergraduate programs. This new credential is designed to extend services for people with disabilities.

Bachelor-level disability and rehabilitation programs prepare professionals in human/social services. These professionals focus on the nature, meaning, consequences, and impact of impairment and disability. These professionals work as part of a team to assist individuals in attaining and maintaining desired independence and quality of life in all aspects of life.

Recognizing the distinctive status of undergraduates in disability and rehabilitation programs, CRCC is creating the new Certified Disability and Rehabilitation Associate (CDRA) credential. Earning the new CDRA credential represents the achievement of professional competency recognized by the national community of practitioners; CDRAs are qualified to effectively support persons with disabilities and chronic illnesses.

Network with CDRAs

CRCC will be the professional home for people who earn the CDRA through the Undergraduate Rehabilitation and Disability Program. CDRAs benefit from networking opportunities, continuing education and professional development opportunities, and belonging to a national organization focusing on rehabilitation and disability.

Demonstrate Skills and Knowledge

Similar to the requirements for Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRCs), CDRAs will be able to demonstrate their education and experience meets minimum standards for certification. These requirements will be based on the knowledge and skills identified by practitioners who are graduates of rehabilitation studies programs.
