How did you learn about rehabilitation counseling or Certified Rehabilitation Counselors? It’s likely that it’s because of someone telling you a story. Perhaps it was about the experience they had receiving service. Maybe it was an educator who encouraged you to pursue the profession based on their firsthand knowledge of how vital the work is. CRC stories are impactful for clients, future counselors, and the media, and we’re excited to hear yours!

Storytelling for Rehabilitation Counselors – Why It Matters

CRC stories are essential to our ability to learn about new avenues to explore. For the millions of Americans with disabilities, hearing about the impact CRCs make on clients every day can be the catalyst for someone to seek services themselves or recommend it to a friend or family member.

CRCC is currently aligning its operations and goals with the 2023-2028 Strategic Plan. A significant part of this effort involves addressing one of the most pressing issues facing the rehabilitation counseling profession: awareness.

This includes direct advocacy with policymakers, a branded awareness video going into production this summer, and daily efforts to connect with business leaders, employers, and decision-makers. Central to everything we do is connecting people with disabilities to CRCs, the gold standard in rehabilitation services. A great way to do that is to tell the story of who CRCs are and what they do.

CRC Stories – Share Your Journey with Clients and Future Counselors

While we’re excited to share tips on helping us collect client stories in a future blog, today we’re going to talk about how you can make a positive impact on the profession in 60 seconds by telling us your CRC stories. We understand that each of you is connected to this profession in unique and personal ways.

We also know for about 99% of you, this profession is something you learned about by word of mouth; many do not grow up wanting to be rehabilitation counselors because they don’t even know the profession exists!

By sharing your written testimony, and quickly telling us what being a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor means to you, you can help us ensure that more people know that they can enter this field and make a difference, as well as help us ensure individuals with disabilities know that CRCs are available and ready to help them navigate their professional and personal goals.

Stories are the top request from policymakers and media professionals when looking to understand the impact of Certified Rehabilitation Counselors.

While CRCC can emphasize the significance of this work, hearing from you is important. This will genuinely drive progress and ensure that greater investments in hiring and training are made. It also goes a long way in supporting future Certified Rehabilitation Counselors. You can click the link below and share your story. Below, you’ll also see an example of how we utilized a recent testimony from LaToya Allen, MRC, CRC.
